The asymmetry of this pipe is extremely subtle. The right side of the shank curves downwards and to the right, while right side of the bowl twists upwards and to the left. In the photos immediately below, the stem may look asymmetrical to the shank; but in fact, what's going on is that the right side of the mouthpiece is meeting the wood at a lower point than the left side because of the twist in the composition. Along the horizontal plane, the mouthpiece and shank are aligned quite normally. (See the bottom row of images.) |
