I am making available for public sale a very small number of 2009 calendars, adapted from what I designed this year as personal Christmas gifts for family and friends. Pipelandscapes by Thomas Looker contains full-color photographs of both pipelandscapes and pipestill-lifes, most of which have previously appeared on The Briar Gallery.
This commercially-printed edition of the calendar comes in the familiar mid- spiral format that binds together two 8 1/2" by 11" pages. When hung on a wall, the calendar's overall size is 11" x 17." Each month displays a full-color, high-resolution photograph of a pipelandscape or pipestill-life. Subjects include unique Teddy and Tokutomi briars (and one pipe by Satou) pictured in locations ranging from Japan to Italy.
I've posted the calendar's images in a special Calendar Preview. At the bottom of the preview page I've included a couple of snap-shots of the calendar itself (in final draft form), along with further data about the publication.
The price for these calendars is $20, plus $5 domestic US shipping. (Foreign purchasers will pay a little more for shipment, depending upon method of delivery and country of residence.) I accept Paypal. (You can use the email address: briargallery@comcast.net )
This limited edition calendar contains attractive prints of some of my favorite pipelandscape photographs. Due to their content, their small number (about three dozen), and the expense of their production, the calendars carry a premium price ... about what museums and galleries charge for their fine art calendars. I consider this publication to be primarily a collection of photographs rather than a time-limited calendar. Since 2003, my annual holiday gifts have provided occasions for friends and family to enjoy beautiful briar carvings and to celebrate the talented artists who created them. In my view, the functional value of the calendars (keeping track of dates) has seemed like a whimsical extra dividend.
