Another Toku-Teddy collaboration
Making a stamp for Teddy's "Samurai helmet"

Teddy's "Samurai Helmet" (spring 2008)

Teddy decided to cover a small flaw with a circle of ivory and suggested that Toku inscribe something in Japanese characters. Teddy suggested "Tom," I suggested "Teddy" or "eagle." Toku said "eagle" would be too large (four characters) so we went with "Teddy" |

Cutting the characters with a Dremel

Special knives that Toku made himself for his ivory work.

Enhancing the cut with a knife

The finished engraving (barely visible to the naked eye.)

Toku has a large number of colors that he used to use in his ivory carving.

NOTE: The instrument above is a steel-body slide guitar, one of a number of guitars and mandolins that Toku has around his workshop. |
