THE EINSTEIN PIPE

Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Theory of Relativity (2005)

Smooth Finish (Amber Root):  only 150 made

"Sherlock Holmes - A Study in Scarlet," 1987,  No. 249 (250)

(One of the most sought-after of Dunhill's commemorative issues.)

SOLD

Christmas Pipe 1981,  No. 39 (< 100)

(Extremely rare:  between 70 and 90 sold.  Comes in wonderful cloissonné burlwood box. )

SOLD

"Royal Bruyere," commemorating Charles & Diana's Wedding, 1981,  No. 11 (c. 100)

(An historic, poignant, and rarely-seen briar.  I also include a large stamp album containing over 70 first-day covers issued by Commonwealth countries on  21 July 1981, the day of the wedding.)

SOLD

"Veritas," The Harvard Pipe, 1989,  No. 22 (100)

(Commemorating Harvard's 300th anniversary.  Two stems. )

SOLD

Gourd Calabash with Meerschaum Bowl

(Dunhill no longer makes this classic design - in a sense, a second kind of "Sherlock Holmes" pipe.)

SOLD

Bent Brandy Meerschaum

A very rare piece:  I have seen only one other bent Dunhill meerschaum in recent years.  The sole marking is a white dot on the stem.  Presumably the pipe was made to Dunhill specifications in Turkey.  I've read that older Dunhill meerschaums were made in Vienna by Bauer, before they closed their European workshop.

SOLD

The Einstein Pipe,  E=mc²

Dated 2005, this sturdy Dunhill apple celebrates the 100th anniversary of Alfred Einstein's Theory of General Relativity.  One of the world's most famous pipe-smokers, Einstein is said to have favored this classic shape.

For this commemoration issue, Dunhill produced 250  Shells and 150 Amber Roots. This rare, smooth-finished pipe is number 133.
